One of the key impediments for the Scrum Masters to address is to build technical and engineering excellence within the Scrum Team. Depending on the kind of domain, product, and teams they are operating with, there could be a plethora of techniques and technology that can overwhelm a Scrum Master.

However, it should not necessarily be that way.

The Scrum Master should focus on key concepts that can be applied across domains and technologies. There are many such practices that can be applied across domains and technologies; for example, test-driven development, acceptance test-driven development, pair programming, continuous integration, value-driven development, behavior-driven development, and many more.

As Scrum Masters, one can easily learn the basic principles of these practices and put them to use. There is no need to think about whether the Scrum Master needs to be technical or not.  

In this 3-hour workshop, I will facilitate your learning around the basic components of behavior-driven development. By the end of this workshop you will be able to clearly define:

Course Topics

This topic introduces the concept of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and explains why it is used in Agile and Scrum teams. You will learn how BDD helps teams improve communication, reduce misunderstandings, and build the right product by focusing on expected behavior instead of only technical implementation. The session will also explain how BDD connects business goals, testing, and development.

In this topic, you will learn how to set up a simple development environment required to practice behavior-driven development. The focus will not be on deep technical knowledge but on understanding the basic setup needed to run BDD tests, use common tools, and follow the workflow used by development teams.

This topic explains how to write clear and structured BDD scenarios. You will learn how to create behavior-based test cases using simple language so that developers, testers, product owners, and Scrum masters can understand them easily. The session will help you see how well-written scenarios improve clarity, reduce confusion, and support better collaboration.

In this topic, you will explore the common tools and commands used to run BDD tests. The goal is not to become a developer, but to understand how the process works so that you can support the team better. You will learn how tests are executed, how results are checked, and how automation helps improve quality.

This topic focuses on applying what you learned in a practical way. You will work through a simple example to see how behavior-driven development is used step-by-step while building a small application.
