Enterprise Agile Coaching is about transforming an entire organisation into an Agile. And this is done by an Enterprise Agile Coach. Also known as Executive coaches or transformation coaches, Enterprise Agile coaches play a significant role in designing and implementing effective Agile transformation for a company and its business needs.

Pre Requisites

To become an Enterprise Agile coach, these are few of the basic requirements:

  1. Should have a minimum of three years of experience as a Scrum team member or team coach.
  2. Should have previously owned any of the professional coaching credentials.
  3. Should have attended an ICAgile Certified Professional – Agile Coaching course (ICP – ACC).
  4. Should have experience of a minimum of three years and 2000 hours of coaching.
  5. Presentation of a journey of learning by means of education and mentorship. And also collaborative learning in coaching and other associated activities over a minimum of three years.
  6. At least three years of leadership and active engagement in the Agile community. While active engagement includes dynamic participation in agile user groups, retreats, camps, conferences, and gatherings; leadership incorporates writing, reviewing, publishing, facilitating, presenting, organising, training and mentoring, etc.
  7. Elementary awareness, understanding and implementing of the development tools, techniques, and frameworks in association with the organisation.
  8. Should have coached organisational change agents, leaders, etc in organisational change initiatives and multiple Agile transformation initiatives.

Road Map to becoming an Enterprise Agile Coach

Agile Team Facilitator

Relatively similar to the role of a Professional Scrum Master or Kanban coach, an Agile team facilitator is crucial to an organisation. He/she plays a vital role in unlocking self-organisational skills, creativity and empowerment in every team.

What do they do?

  • Focus on one or two teams.
  • Eliminate impediments.
  • Build daily reports.
  • Encourage positive team dynamics.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Create an environment of enthusiasm and team spirit
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the Agile Manifesto and 12 principles of Agile.

Agile Coach

After the Agile Team Facilitator, the next level is the Agile Coach. Here, the focus should be on becoming a skilled Agile coach rather than a great Agile Coach.

What do they do?

  • Have a strategic focus across multiple teams.
  • Concrete knowledge and experience with Agile program structure.
  • Experience in establishing an Agile transformation approach.
  • Minimal experience with Agile outside of IT.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide delivery assurance
  • Reduce delivery risk
  • Mentor Agile team facilitators
  • Help the team to adapt to the process for higher efficiency.

Enterprise Agile Coach

Enterprise Agile coaches have the knowledge, credibility, and in-depth coaching skills. These are used to coach members of the leadership team. Often, Enterprise Agile Coaches have profound experience in Agile, change, organisational development, Enterprise Transformation and culture. They can work at all levels in an organisation.

What do they do?

  1. Generally, experience at least more than one Agile process.
  2. Have a strategic focus on all portfolios.
  3. Would have a solid perspective on mapping Agile frameworks to different types of work.
  4. Deploy their experience with executive discussions on Agile, various strategic topics, establishing an Agile transformation approach, and Agile program structure.
